Shinnors creates a personal visual language through motif, restricted palette, considered application and keen composition. He is aware of the landscape as a conscious living form and how man has divided it. Impressive paintings recall the desolation of a place at the edge of the Western world. The port motif reappears, which has often been a stimulus, identifying without sentiment with his native Limerick. His distinctive motifs painted with dramatic intensity, demonstrate a singular strength of reducing landscapes to complex abstract form.

John Shinnors was born in Limerick in 1950, and studied at the Limerick School of Art from 1970-72. Shinnors’ major solo exhibitions include the Wexford Arts Centre, Taylor Galleries, Dublin and the Limerick City Gallery of Art.  Shinnors has participated in noted selected group exhibitions in the Vangard Gallery, The Hunt Museum, and the RHA annual exhibitions. He is involved in the promotion of the arts through the Shinnors Curatorial Scholars! hip at LCGA and is a member of Aosdana.
