Carnegie Reading Circle

Thursday 26 November 2009, 4-6pm
Limerick City Gallery of Art, Pery Square, Limerick

Please join us for the Carnegie Reading Circle at Limerick City Gallery of Art on Thursday 26 November, 4pm to 6pm.  This is an informal, social event where guests are invited for afternoon tea and to read to the group a text or extract from a text on the theme of Ways of Living.  The model is based on the Guestroom, London exhibit at Zoo Art Fair 2009 when guests read from a wide variety of sources such as scientific texts, poetry, hacking guides, historical documents, fictional writing and personal correspondence.  Participants are encouraged to be as creative as they please with their choice.

The event is facilitated by Mary Conlon, the third recipient of the Shinnors Scholarship – MA in Curatorial Studies.  Prompted by the imminent redevelopment of the historical Carnegie Building housing LCGA and its original function as the Carnegie Free Library and Museum, she is interested in the relationship between literature and visual arts, considering the introduction of a theoretical trialism, or a series of third terms relating to space.  As part of the LCGA off-site programme, she will organise a series of exhibitions and events under the name of Six Memos which refers to Italo Calvino’s series of lectures Six Memos for the Next Millennium.   The series will be divided into chapters, each with a distinct area of investigation.

Admission is free.  RSVP to Mary Conlon E T 061-310633
