Darkness Visible - Presented by Belltable Arts Centre and Limerick City Gallery of Art

Jun 20 2009 2:27PM

Untitled, Eoin McHugh, Chinese Stick Ink on Paper 2005

Darkness Visible as a curated exhibition explores the nuances of the ornamental line through a variety of media, including video, sculpture, photography and drawing. The work self consciously exists in the realm of the Gothic and the Romantic, where ornament does not serve to decorate but is instead an external manifestation of darker inner forces.

The concept for the show came about through a series of conversations between artists and exhibition curators Breda Lynch and Ann Mulrooney. The areas where their separate research interests intersect provided the initial inspiration for this body of work. The nine artists from Ireland and the UK featured are Ailbhe Ni Bhrain, George Bolster, Andy Harper, Angela Huntbach, Breda Lynch, Alice Maher, Eoin McHugh, Ann Mulrooney and Kate Street.
