David Lilburn: Artist's Book Launch

Thursday 10 December 2009, 4pm
Limerick City Gallery of Art, Carnegie Building, Pery Square, Limerick

Please join us in celebrating the launch of the limited edition book Walking Drawing Making Memory, A Ballynahinch Sketchbook by artist David Lilburn.

In Walking Drawing Making Memory, we see some of David's panoramic drypoint prints in the context of what is usually the more private work of an artist (...): the original, searching notations and speculative mark-making through which an artist begins the attempt to think out onto the page his experience of being in a landscape.

David Lilburn explores ideas about place and memory through the graphic processes of drawing and printmaking. He has been awarded many public commissions, the most recent being a large-scale series of prints titled 'In Medias Res', commissioned by the National Library of Ireland as part of the 'James Joyce and ULYSSES exhibition'. This year he has been selected to take part in 'Artist's Proof' a collaboration between the Graphic Studio and Chester Beatty Library, Dublin and in 'X' a collaboration between Limerick Printmakers and RTE Lyric FM.

Walking Drawing, Making Memory, A Ballynahinch Sketchbook is published in a limited, numbered edition of 300 by Ballynahinch Castle and Occasional Press, July 2009. Numbers 1-150 include a frontispiece of an original intaglio print signed and numbered by the artist. Books 1-150 are priced at 85 Euro(+ P&P); books 151-300 at 30 Euro.
