LCGA Permanent Collection Lecture by Dr. Peter Jordan at The Hunt Museum part of Heritage Week 2010

Tuesday 24 August 2010, 6pm
The Hunt Museum, Rutland Street, Limerick

From 21-29 August 2010, National Heritage Week will organise events throughout the country celebrating the richness, quality and diversity of our national heritage.  LCGA will co-ordinate a series of events starting with a free public lecture by Dr. Peter Jordan on the LCGA Permanent Collection at The Hunt Museum on Rutland Street.  Dr. Jordan, a senior lecturer at the Waterford Institute of Technology, will discuss the historic collection including the twenty-four works on exhibit on the first floor of The Hunt Museum .

The Collection began in 1936 when a committee was formed to collect artworks for the gallery.  The Collection Policy builds on that set out by the founding committee, which had a principal aim to secure "examples of the work of all well-known artists of Irish birth, or of those who have worked in Ireland ."  The committee also desired that "an important section of the gallery be reserved for Limerick men and women who attained distinction in history, literature or the arts" with another section reserved "for paintings in watercolour, drawings, engravings."

The Hunt Museum will exhibit works by E. H. Bailey / Grace Henry / Paul Henry / Evie Hone / Maine Jellet / Doyle Jones / Sean Keating / Harry Kernoff / Thomas Kirk / Charles Lamb / Sir John Lavery / William J. Leech / Sean O'Sullivan / Sarah Purser / Oliver Sheppard.

Admission to the LCGA Permanent Collection and the talk are free.
