Fine Lines: Drawing Seminar

Friday 29 July 2011
Istabraq Hall, Merchants Quay, Limerick

Fine Lines, a major drawing show, opened in Istabraq Hall, Limerick City Gallery's off-site venue on 6 June. The exhibition, selected from the National Collection of Contemporary Drawing, features fifty-two individual pieces by over forty artists and foregrounds recent additions to the collection, drawings purchased in the last year from a younger generation of Irish artists including Stephen Brandes, Julie Merriman, Laura McMorrow, Niamh O' Malley, Niamh McCann, Brendan Earley, Clodagh Emoe and Brian Fay.

To contextualise and expand on the content and premise of the exhibition, a drawing seminar is scheduled for the afternoon of Friday 29 July at 2pm. The seminar is broad in scope, reflecting the breadth and inclusiveness of the medium, and structured around two main themes: drawing as research and drawing as practice.

The invited panel for the afternoons proceedings are Stephanie Straine, Curator and Academic based in Edinburgh, Julie Merriman and Samuel Walsh both artists who have made drawing central to their artistic practice. The seminar will be introduced and moderated by Marian Lovett, Curatorial Advisor at LCGA. Following focused presentations by the panel and responses from the floor, it is hoped there may be time for the audience to contribute to an open discussion on strategies for building a drawing collection.

Light refreshments will be served afterwards.  Booking is advised
