Finishing Touches to the Carnegie Building

July 2011
Carnegie Building, Pery Square, Limerick

Limerick City Gallery of Art is delighted to be in the final stages of the renovation of the Carnegie Building on Pery Square.  Since May 2010, a Phase II Development, funded by the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht through the Access II scheme, has provided a large scale redevelopment of the Gallery adding three extensions to the historic structure in order to upgrade facilities for the visiting public and staff.  Over the summer months the final touches to improve the infrastructure will include the installation of glazed sliding doors to give better wheelchair access, the replacement of all windows in the listed building and the refurbishment of the existing exhibition spaces.

On Monday 11 July, LCGA and Limerick City Council will publish a public tender opportunity for a licence to operate a cafe/restaurant in the largest public extension of the building. With a glazed wall facing out onto the People's Park, the space is a friendly and welcoming environment that will form a key part of the provision of a quality cultural experience for visitors.  Full details will be available at www.etenders.ie

The Gallery will announce shortly its programming schedule for its return to the building in the autumn, along with its new opening hours with two late openings and longer opening hours on Sundays.  We look forward to organising 'sneak previews' ahead of the grand opening of the gallery and to welcoming visitors back to our home at Pery Square.
