Bring in the Noise

David Beattie (Irl), Laura Buckley (Irl), Alexander Gutke (SW).

Ormston House in partneship with Limerick City Gallery of Art (LCGA), will present Bring in the Noise curated by Mary Cremin. The exhibition focuses on artist’s whose practise engage with and appropriate technology creating assemblages and installations. The works appeal to our natural desire to understand what surrounds us through visuals, sound and objects. The sound elements of these diverse works interact with each other, creating a soundscape that is both playful and individual to each of the works. While each of the artists approach to sound varies from inaudible, computer generated to analog, the diversity of these sounds engage with how we listen. The exhibition creates a shared space through active listening; the communal aural experience connects the listener through immersive sounds while the visual and sculptural aspects of the works play with ideas of perception and illusion.

David Beattie’s work in LCGA techno (2013), combines sound, light, organic movements, space and the field of physics to explore a set of objects inter-relationships. Central to the works is the Platonic solid dodecahedron, also known as the fifth element. Along side the other four solids that presented fire, earth, air and water, the dodecahedron is said to represent all other matter. In seeking a tangible, physical representation of this element, Beattie explores the idea of an object in a perpetual state of becoming something other.

The main exhibition will run at Ormston House from 25th October - 23rd November 2013
