Wednesday 9 June 2010
Dublin Castle, Palace Street, Dublin 2

Limerick City Gallery of Art has been recognised by the Heritage Council and awarded interim accreditation under the Museum Standards Programme for Ireland at an awards ceremony in Dublin Castle.  Along with five other museums, LCGA was selected for its management standards, care of collections and visitor services.  The Heritage Council's Chief Executive, Michael Starrett, said the value of the museum sector to the economy could not be underestimated.  Last year more than 3 million overseas visitors engaged in cultural or historical visits while in Ireland - of which 1.7 million visited museums or art galleries across Ireland.
